Choosing a payment platform in the UAE used to mean picking between a clunky POS terminal and a steep monthly fee. That has changed. Both Mamo and Nomod were built for a world where sellers work from their phones, invoices travel over WhatsApp, and "checkout" can happen anywhere.
But they serve meaningfully different customer profiles. This article puts the two platforms side by side on pricing, regulation, features, and settlement speed, so you can make the right call for where your business is today and where it is heading.
Nomod launched in March 2021 (Y Combinator S21) and was founded by Omar Kassim in 2018/2019. It is UK-incorporated but operates primarily in the UAE, targeting micro-businesses, sole traders, social sellers, and freelancers.
Its defining bet was going entirely hardware-free: instead of shipping a card reader, Nomod turns any NFC-capable iPhone (XS or later) or Android phone (Android 12+ with NFC) into a contactless payment terminal via Tap to Pay. The result is zero hardware cost and zero waiting for a device to arrive.
As of 2026, Nomod reports more than 55,000 merchants in the UAE and over AED 500 million in annualised transaction volume (YC profile). It raised a $3.4 million seed round in November 2021; no later funding rounds have been publicly announced.
Mamo is regulated by the DFSA in the DIFC, Dubai, one of the few UAE payment fintechs with this credential. Founded to serve growing SMEs, Mamo has expanded beyond pure payment acceptance to offer a combined platform: payment links, a gateway, QR codes, and, critically, corporate Mamo Cards with expense management and global payouts.
Mamo's pricing is transparent and published: a Premium plan at 2.7% + AED 0.80 (AED 99/month) and a Growth plan at 2.9% + AED 1.00 with no monthly fee. Same-day settlement is available at an additional +0.5% (Premium) or +0.75% (Growth), it is an elective upgrade, not a free default.
Pricing is the first place most merchants look, and the gap between Nomod and Mamo is real but nuanced.
| Plan | Transaction fee | Monthly fee | Payout speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nomod, Weekly | 2.37% + AED 0.80 | AED 0 | T+5 |
| Nomod, Two Days | 2.57% + AED 0.80 | AED 0 | T+2 |
| Mamo, Premium | 2.7% + AED 0.80 | AED 99 | 2–5 business days (standard) |
| Mamo, Growth | 2.9% + AED 1.00 | AED 0 | 2–5 business days (standard) |
| Mamo, Premium + same-day | 3.2% + AED 0.80 | AED 99 | Same-day |
| Mamo, Growth + same-day | 3.65% + AED 1.00 | AED 0 | Same-day |
Nomod adds VAT (5%) on top of its transaction fee. Both platforms offer custom pricing for high-volume merchants (Nomod: AED 350,000+/month).
The headline: Nomod's Weekly plan is cheaper per transaction for merchants who can tolerate up to five working days to receive their funds. Mamo's Premium plan costs more at 2.7%, but brings a regulated platform with a broader feature set. As transaction volume grows, the rate difference narrows, and platform depth becomes the deciding factor.
For many micro-sellers, regulation is an abstract concern. For SMEs with corporate clients, government contracts, or employees on expense accounts, it is not.
Mamo is regulated by the DFSA (Dubai Financial Services Authority). This means it operates under AML/KYC oversight, capital adequacy requirements, and consumer protection rules within the DIFC framework.

Mamo adds corporate cards, expense management and payouts to the way you get paid.
Nomod makes sense when:
Nomod's WhatsApp-first design and hardware-free Tap to Pay are differentiated. For a market-stall vendor, a home baker, a personal trainer, or a freelance designer, there may be no simpler route to accepting card payments in the UAE.
Mamo makes sense when:
Settlement timelines directly affect cash flow, and the two platforms approach this differently.
Nomod's base Weekly plan (T+5) is cheapest but slowest. Its Two Days plan (T+2) costs 2.57% + AED 0.80. Faster-than-T+2 payouts require a paid monthly membership (Purple, Silver or Gold tiers).
Mamo's standard settlement is 2–5 business days. Same-day settlement is available as an elective upgrade: +0.5% additional on the Premium plan and +0.75% additional on the Growth plan. This is not a default, you pay the surcharge only when you opt in.
For a merchant processing AED 100,000/month on Mamo Premium and choosing same-day settlement, the additional cost is AED 500/month. Nomod's Silver membership (same-day up to AED 250,000/day) costs AED 229/month (AED 179/month if billed annually). At higher volumes, Nomod's flat membership model can work out cheaper for same-day cash access; at lower volumes, Mamo's per-transaction approach may be more economical. The right choice depends on your monthly volume and how frequently you need same-day access.
Mamo is regulated by the DFSA (DIFC, Dubai), a formally recognised payment regulator in the UAE.
Nomod charges 2.37% + AED 0.80 per transaction on its Weekly plan (T+5 payout) and 2.57% + AED 0.80 on its Two Days plan (T+2). Faster payouts require a paid membership tier. VAT at 5% is applied on top of the transaction fee.
Yes, but at an additional cost. Mamo's same-day settlement is available at +0.5% additional on the Premium plan or +0.75% additional on the Growth plan. Standard settlement is 2–5 business days.
Yes. Nomod's Tap to Pay turns any iPhone XS or later, or any Android phone running Android 12+ with NFC, into a contactless payment terminal, no hardware required. Mamo offers payment links and QR codes that also require no hardware.
Yes. Mamo offers corporate Mamo Cards with up to 0.5% unlimited cashback on AED spend and up to 2% unlimited cashback on non-AED spend (promotional rates up to 8% may apply on a limited-time basis). Nomod does not offer corporate cards or expense management tools.
Nomod was built WhatsApp-first: payment links are designed to be shared directly via WhatsApp and social channels, and the onboarding flow is optimised for sole traders operating through chat. Mamo also supports payment links but is positioned for businesses that need more than a single payment channel.
Both platforms support Tabby (buy now, pay later). Nomod additionally integrates Tamara, giving it two BNPL options. Mamo currently supports Tabby only.
Choose Nomod if you sell solo, want the lowest base rate, and take in-person payments with Tap to Pay on your phone.
Choose Mamo once you have a team. You get unlimited corporate cards, expense management and payouts, Jaywan at checkout, and DFSA regulation, alongside the same Tabby and mada support.
Give them corporate cards and keep accepting Tabby and mada, all on one account.
Mamo is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA). All pricing correct as of October 2026. Third-party pricing sourced from publicly available information; verify directly with providers before making a commercial decision.
